The most popular and well-known among them are California sushi rolls, which appeared in the USA in the early 1970s. Today, this dish can be found on the menu of all sushi bars and Asian restaurants. The recipe for California rolls is known by all masters of this exotic dish, but not everyone can make them correctly and deliciously. The important elements of this dish are the sauces, generously seasoned with spices and fresh vegetables, which give the dish a pleasant crunch. What are sushi and sushi rolls?

A traditional Japanese dish, in which a piece of fish, shrimp, or other seafood is placed on a rice cake and tied with a strip of nori, is called sushi.

If all the ingredients are layered and rolled into a roll, it is called sushi rolls. If the seaweed is on the outside, it is called maki, and if the vegetables, seaweed, and seafood are inside the roll, it is called uramaki. To prepare California sushi rolls, boiled rice of special varieties and fresh or smoked fish or seafood are used. The main highlight of the dish is the sauces, which give it a spicy and tangy flavor, unusual but so distinctive.

Ingredients for California roll

This is the most popular roll known all over the world. The calorie content of the California roll is 175-180 kcal per 100 grams of the finished product. The classic recipe includes the following ingredients:

  • sushi rice;
  • dried seaweed nori sheets;
  • masago caviar;
  • fresh cucumbers;
  • fresh ripe avocado;
  • wasabi paste;
  • sliced crab meat.

In California Ebi rolls, crab meat is replaced with tempura shrimp, and cream cheese and mayonnaise are added.

Easy and quick preparation

Step-by-step instructions on how to make California roll:

  1. Place plastic wrap on a bamboo mat. Cut the seaweed sheet in half and evenly spread the boiled rice on one half.
  2. Evenly spread the masago caviar on the rice and press it slightly.
  3. Carefully turn the rice down using the bamboo mat, place pieces of crab meat, long slices of avocado, and fresh cucumber (cut into long flat slices) on the seaweed.
  4. Roll the roll using the mat. Cut into portions with a sharp knife. Serve with spicy soy sauce and pickled ginger. Sushi rolls are ready. Enjoy your meal!

The California sushi recipe differs from rolls by having a piece of fresh fish on boiled rice rolled into a ball, all tied with a strip of nori. It can be flavored with different sauces to taste.
